This is a pared down version of a similar talk I gave at YAPC:NA 2012.

The goal of this presentation is to arm people with some basic approaches to teaching Perl to people outside our community and who may have some unfortunately biases. How can you show that Perl is Modern and most importantly FUN FUN FUN?

Unlike traditional approaches to teaching Perl, we don't take a 'start from bottom' attitude, but instead focus on showing beautiful Perl that does a lot with a little, and provokes a sense of excitement and the desire to learn more.

Lessons are drawn from the successes and troubles I encountered teaching Perl at a popular startup incubator site in NYC.
